The Rolling Stones were playing at the Enmore Theatre the last time this inner-west strip generated this much buzz.

Food and wine venues are Enmore Road's new rock stars, with a rash of arrivals. The opening of Hartsyard's bar spin-off, The Gretz, is imminent, while a few doors away building work is now underway at Porteno chef Ibrahim Kasif's highly anticipated but delayed Turkish-inspired restaurant, Stanbuli.

Just a Nick Kyrgios serve away, merchant banker turned restaurateur Christopher Thomas has stolen a march on his more experienced neighbours, opening Bauhaus West.

The name is partially inspired by his favourite bar in Tokyo, while the menu has the international ports of call of Thomas' global wanderings as a financial trader.

Thomas also knows what he likes, and doesn't: "We have made a commitment to never serve kale – in my view it tastes like socks."

The trio of venues won't be the last of Enmore's opening action.

A number of high-profile operators are eyeing property in the area, and word on the high street is the owners of Shady Pines are among them.
