Sydney wine buffs have been left disappointed after many missed out on tickets to the latest food and wine event to hit the city.

Tickets to the Wine Island festival, which will be held over three days from Friday, November 13 on Clark Island, went on sale at 9am this morning Tuesday, September 1 but most of the 3000 tickets sold out within 15 minutes.

Would-be festival-goers took to social media to voice their frustration, complaining that after selecting tickets online and clicking through to the payment page, tickets were then no longer available.

VIP tickets sold out first, with pre-sale tickets available to mailing list subscribers also snapped up in minutes on Friday.

Only general admission tickets for the Friday lunchtime package remained available at the time of publication at wineisland.com.au.

Organisers for the event said they would have liked to cater to more people but unfortunately they could not issue any more tickets.

"It is amazing to see how excited everyone is about this brand-new wine festival and as Clark Island is a small island, we were really limited with capacity across the three days so unfortunately we couldn't accommodate everyone this year," the festival director, Kristen Francis, said.

Those who did manage to snaffle tickets to the three-day harbour event located opposite Double Bay can expect to sample from a range of more than 100 new and traditional wines and enjoy gourmet food, masterclasses and cooking demonstrations from suppliers including Bar H, Oysters Unplugged and The Hunter Valley Cheese Factory.
