Dust off your lifejackets, Sydney. The action this summer looks set to be out on the harbour. After the success of The Island in recent years, where everyone from Kim Kardashian to Buddy Franklin has partied, Good Food hears a new floating venue will call Sydney home later this year.

Those who have seen the vessel, which has just finished the Mediterranean ''season'', say it holds 1000 people in luxury. It's heading south and is expected to have even more money splashed on its luxe interiors on arrival.

A spokesperson for Roads and Maritime Services says The Island is the only non-propelled floating hospitality venue operating on Sydney Harbour. ''Inquiries about a second venue have been made but no formal application has been received.'' Whether this new floater fits the ''non-propelled'' category is unclear.

Descriptions of the craft sound more ship than barge. Apparently high-end food will be part of the offering and it could be headed to the waterways west of the city.

A propelled venue, Aqua Club, also joined the party on the water over summer, a magnet for sun-soaked revellers.

Its Facebook page promises its return in spring 2014.
