The Balmain peninsula is in the midst of big food shake-up.

The Balmain Pub Group, which lists the Riverview Hotel in its portfolio, has stepped in to run the West End Hotel and has given the pub, once owned by Abe Saffron, a significant makeover. When it reopens on April 18, it'll be with a new name, the Balmain Hotel. Chef Brad Sloane will head up its bistro.

Word on the lower reaches of Darling Street, around the Balmain Bug site, is that RJ Lines - former head chef at Neutral Bay Bar & Dining - is poised to sign a deal to open a restaurant on the strip. Fingers crossed; it'd be a good addition. We'll keep you posted.
