Fresh from signing talented former Fish Face chef Josh Niland to run the kitchen at Café Nice, Barry McDonald has continued to expand his Sydney restaurant empire. Last week he opened the latest branch of Fratelli Fresh, a hop away from our state politicians on Macquarie Street.

Fratelli Parlamento features a Michael Delaney design. "He has done a great job giving it a lush, clubby feel. We had to put in the brick and the Roman arches. The Nippon Club was here for 40 years; the only thing we kept was the beautiful curve of its bar and cigarette trough underneath."

McDonald believes Macquarie Street has been neglected for too long. "Hopefully we'll get some parliamentarians in but there's such a great local audience. It's right near the Reserve Bank of Australia and the head offices for the banks."
