Free meatballs in Sydney CBD

We've been predicting a meatball frenzy to hit Sydney for a while now and it looks like it's finally happening.

Bootleg Bar in Potts Point has undergone a makeover and reopened as Bootleg Meatballs. Until 1am on weekends, diners can order a $15 plate of beef, pork, chicken, fish, or eggplant and chickpea meatballs (not sure about the idea of a "fish meatball" but you never know).

There's a bunch of options you can team your chosen ball with such as pasta, white beans, polenta, spuds and buttermilk onion rings. At this juncture, it is important to note that Bootleg Meatballs also serves a vanilla ice cream slider for dessert.

Fans of free food are catered for on Tuesday, July 1 when The Original Meatball Company opens on York Street in the city. Download a barcode from The Meatball Company's website, rock up between 11am and 3pm and score yourself a free meatball hero (aka "a roll") or meatballs on a bed of salad. The owners are also happy to throw in free fries and a drink. The offer is also unlimited, so if you think you can neck more than one meatball sub in a four-hour period then go for it.

Of course, these newcomers will have to create some pretty fine meatballs if they expect better the ones forever on offer at Cafe Sopra.
