French Corner Cafe opens in Geelong

Six weeks after suffering a heart attack, David Wainwright thought a small 40-seater cafe on Geelong's cosmopolitan Pako would be a breeze to ease back into work. However, he and partner Mandy Wright (both ex-Baveras) are working harder than ever and the place is jumping as locals embrace the new venture. With tricolors flying, potted geraniums at the door and a relaxed atmosphere across three dining spaces, the eclectic mix of French and contemporary dishes includes zucchini and Meredith goat's cheese souffle with pear and radish salad, a beef cheek-filled baguette and a rich blue swimmer crab lasagne, and a host of sweet treats from the display cabinet are a perfect finish with coffee. The French Corner Cafe, 100 Pakington Street, Geelong West, phone 03 5223 2728, open Tuesday to Saturday for breakfast and lunch from 9am.
