Freshwater's favourite hole-in-the-wall bar and restaurant has moved to a bigger and better venue.

A short stroll down the road from its previous site and four times the size, the new and improved Stowaway features indoor and outdoor dining areas, a balcony to take in those beautiful northern beaches sunsets, a pizza restaurant (Marilyna's) and even a boutique florist.

The "rough luxe" venue is suitable for all ages with a variety of dining and lounging spaces depending on the occasion. "Creating pockets of different dining zones has really helped us," co-owner Bryony Proctor says. "Whatever your mood is for the day, you can find a space to match it."

The space is inspired by British smoking rooms, US alpine lodges and New York industrial lofts with features of reclaimed brick and recycled floor boards. The eclectic design is reflected in the new menu – a fusion of Asian cuisine and classic pub food, where you can order a Prison Plate (where you simply "get what you're given") or the Three Little Piggies burger stuffed with a pork and fennel pattie, pork katsu, sweet bacon, swiss cheese, apple chutney and green leaves.

"There's no dressing up code or dressing down code," Bryony says. "Kids are welcome. It's a mixed bag of people all mingling together and it really matches our service vibe. The more the merrier we say."
