The third outpost of George Calombaris's expanding Jimmy Grants empire has opened in Ormond, the first outside the inner-city.

Taking over what was previously a Mexican restaurant in North Road, the Made Establishment group has gutted the space, installing a custom-made kitchen behind the front counter where orders are taken for souvlakis and salads. If you've visited their branches in Fitzroy or Melbourne's Emporium development you'll be familiar with the short menu, although here they've added The Ormond souva: pita bread filled with fish finger croquettes, slaw and lots of tartare sauce.

The long, high-ceilinged room is bright with primary colours on the walls and family-friendly furniture. They've introduced take-home family packs and there's a new dessert, a baklava ice-cream sandwich that looks set to be a hit.

In the next 12 months Made Establishment intends to roll out a further three Jimmy Grants branches, in Richmond, Ascot Vale and Glen Waverley.

The Ormond outlet doesn't take bookings or phone orders. It's open Monday to Thursday 3.30pm-10pm and Friday to Sunday 11am-10pm.
