Goodfood.com.au has been named as a finalist in the 2015 PANPA Newspaper of the Year awards.

Industry body Newspaper Works announced the finalists today (August 12) for this year's awards, covering print and digital newspaper publishing, photography, publishing innovation and production.

Good Food was listed in the Best Niche / Specialty App or Microsite open category. Other finalists include The Age's Gallipoli coverage and microsite One More Climb from The Canberra Times.

Kate Cox, National Editor of Food and Drink at Fairfax said the Good Food team had worked hard to grow its digital audience in the last 12 months.

"We've implemented new columnists and sections, such as a travel section, featuring everything from weekend getaways to foodie eat streets to overseas food tours, as well as more health food content and how to's.

"I'm really stoked with what we've been able to achieve with such a small but passionate team."

Goodfood.com.au editor, Sarah McInerney said the site's online community is thriving.

"More than 700,000 people come to goodfood.com.au each month to cook our recipes or find a great place to eat. We love hearing their suggestions too, either on the site or via social media.

"Nearly 40,000 people voted for their favourite eatery in our recent Good Food Guide People's Choice awards for Sydney and Melbourne."

According to Newspaper Works CEO Mark Hollands, this year has been the most competitive for daily and weekend newspapers "for a very long time", with more than 700 entries received from Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

"Newspapers this year have been forthright and courageous, and mixed with their various approaches to entertaining provocation," he said in a statement.

"Our newspapers have retained a high standard of journalism while evolving to compete in an increasingly fragmented landscape of content diversity and technology choice."

The winners will be announced at the Newspaper of the Year gala dinner on September 11 as part of the annual Future Forum event.

The Good Food and Dan Murphy's wine matching partnership is also a finalist in the Newspaper Works advertising and marketing awards.
