Buckle up, Petersham, parmesan foam with pan-roasted scallops and a side of local craft beer are on the way. The grand Majestic Theatre on New Canterbury Road, which had a spell as a roller-skating venue, reopened in mid-2015 with a grocer and restaurant. There were longer-term plans to put in an upstairs bar, Harvest, which will have its long-awaited opening night on May 12 after finally ticking all the appropriate licensing boxes.

Co-owner Cheryl Reen says they were keen to retain as much of the old cinema as possible. "You can still see where the original stairs came up," she says. Mid-century leather couches and ebony shelving are a nod to the golden age of Tinseltown. Chef Shiman Woon will deliver a modern take on tapas, with pig's trotter with crispy ears and romesco sauce on Harvest's draft menu.
