Is the longest recorded search for a Sydney restaurant site over?

Word is the Lennox Hastie restaurant, backed by the Fink family, finally has a home in the Darlinghurst-Surry Hills area.

It has certainly been a long journey. Chef Lennox Hastie went on the Fink payroll in 2011. The highly touted chef, who worked at Asador Etxebarri in Spain, had been courted by a who's who of the Sydney restaurant industry prior to signing.

A Chippendale site was found then passed over, then a deal on a former adult bookstore in Kings Cross fell through. A proposed opening on the rooftop at the Paramount Pictures Building didn't proceed. Hastie has criss-crossed Sydney looking for a home for his food, even being spotted at Berowra Waters Inn after Dietmar Sawyere's departure.

We tracked Hastie down for comment. "It is too early days to start telling people anything. I've been close before," he says.
