Cory Campbell, who has headed the 55th-floor kitchen at Vue de Monde since 2010, has handed over the baton to his former sous chef, Stephen Nairn, and Justin James.

"I'm very happy with what I've achieved at Vue de Monde," says the Newcastle-born chef. "But there's other things I've neglected".

He's heading north for a break, with surf in mind.

Future plans? "I'd love to have a three-hat place of my own someday. That's my dream. I love cooking. I love working with suppliers and guests. If something comes across my path and it gives me all of that, I'll be happy."

There are no plans to change the direction of the food, which earned the restaurant three hats in the latest The Age Good Food Guide and the Restaurant of the Year award in 2013. But Campbell says his successors will make their own mark.
