It's the week before Christmas and people will be searching for presents in a late shopping spree. If you're out and about, this could be the best shopping break.

The husband-wife duo behind The City Lane are opening their second food pop-up in the city's shopping hub. Paul and Lauren Kristoff will be dishing out doughnut ice-cream sandwiches and matched craft beers at The Strand to help Melburnians get through their Christmas list.

This on-trend twist on the classic ice-cream sandwich is the second pop-up from the team who brought Nutella and peanut butter s'mores to the streets of Melbourne earlier this year.

"After the overwhelming success of the Nutella pop-up, we knew we wanted to do something big and we knew we wanted to do it in summer," Paul Kristoff says. "When Lauren started creating these ice-cream flavours, it all started to fall in place."

The Kristoffs will be making the ice-cream and toppings from scratch, and Fitzroy doughnut shack Big Lou's will be supplying freshly made cake doughnuts for the sandwiches ($5 each).

Ice-creams come in three flavours, and Brunswick East's Temple Brewing is stocking the bar ($8 a stubby). Punters can chose between Turkish delight cheesecake matched with the Rye Hard IPA, peanut butter and dark chocolate matched with New World Order American stout, or orange and cardamom paired with Bicycle Summer Ale.

If you don't feel like going for a suggested match, pop into the laneway for a doughnut or a drink to soothe the shopping strain. They'll also be serving glasses of shiraz and sauvignon blanc ($8).

Open 10:30am-10:30pm, Friday, December 18 until Sunday, December 20 at The Strand on Driver Lane in the CBD.
