Brussels sprouts are wonderfully versatile little brassicas - eat them whole, halved, quartered, shredded or as individual leaves, either boiled, steamed, sauteed, roasted or raw.

Packham pears are nobbly, fat-bottomed, juicy and fragrant. No need to avoid the obvious - a salad of pear, roasted walnut and blue cheese drizzled with a honey dressing is a cliche for a reason.
