Melbourne's inner south-east has been getting its fair share of new wine-driven, food-focussed venues – think South Press and Sth Central in South Yarra – and now there's 505 Wine Room, just down the road in Toorak.

Named after its location at 505 Malvern Road (on the corner of Williams Road), 505 Wine Room was formerly the Bush Inn, a sports bar full of pots and parmas.

It's has been revamped with dark woods and a black-and-white colour scheme augmented with turquoise and plum, but retains a friendly, approachable buzz.

The menu, by chef Matthew Fiebig, is flexible. Tuna ceviche or zucchini, mint and almond fritters with goat's curd can work as an entree or a snack. Mains of poussin with Pernod and thyme or lamb shoulder with cumin yoghurt and carrots are perfect to share.

There's a bottle shop on the ground floor, along with the main dining room and bar, and the cocktail bar upstairs is available for private functions.

Open daily from noon.
