Oxford Street stalwart The Midnight Shift nightclub has seen a lot of late-night booty-shaking in its 33 years. But now the venue has shifted gears by opening a restaurant downstairs.

91 Oxford Kitchen & Bar is serving lunch and dinner daily, and breakfast on weekends. The restaurant has its own entrance and street frontage, so there will be no awkward encounters between fresh-faced breakfasters and clubbers heading home at 8am.

The 60-seat restaurant is part of an extensive renovation to the downstairs level of the building. It has been split into two sections, with the Shift Bar taking up the other space. Upstairs remains The Shift nightclub.

The restaurant has a semi-underground industrial vibe, with pops of blue and orange, and sculptures of vintage kitchen utensils adorning the walls.

Its Asian-influenced contemporary menu includes share plates, burgers and mains, with a condensed version available until 3am on weekends.

There's a lengthy cocktail list courtesy of the Shift Bar, coffee by Two Front Doors and hot chocolate from Blue Mountains boutique chocolatier Josophan's.

"Oxford Street has had a tough time of late," Shift Entertainment licensee Mark Mader says.

"We think it's time for a repositioning of what the street means and what it offers. We want to help build a bustling cafe culture during the day and into the evening.

"We also noticed there's nowhere in the area to socialise later in the evening, without being thrust into a bustling bar or club. If it's 11pm on a Saturday and you just want to sit with friends, have a cake and a hot chocolate or coffee, that's fine by us."
