Bad Boys Melbourne are all talk. The aforementioned boys are good'uns, really, and if the lunchtime queue up Punch Lane is anything to go by, so are their burgers.

While the buns are the obligatory brioche and the beef's wagyu, Bad Boys burgers are in the classic mould. Their namesake burger is all patty, crisp bacon, cos lettuce and cheese, while the Chooky Boy bungs in a crumbed chicken fillet slathered with chilli mayo.

Vegos get a mushroom stuffed with feta and haloumi, dressed with rocket, relish and caramelised onion. Sides are pure Americana: a box of hot onion rings and thick-cut chips, for example, with a Hershey's chocolate milkshake to boot.

Lunchtimes are expectedly frenzied. A short row of barstools trim the neat little venue, though a generous outdoor area seems to please those who can't fit into the bunker-like space. Office workers can start their day with a brekkie burger (bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato), while partygoers will no doubt make good use of Bad Boys' late-night Thursdays and Fridays.

Open Monday-Wednesday 8am-8pm; Thursday-Friday 8am-10pm; Saturday-Sunday 11am-8pm.

Bad Boys, Punch Lane (corner of Lonsdale Street), Melbourne, 9663 8003.
