This is the latest bar by the Office of Public Works clan, who also own Section 8, Ferdydurke and Brunswick East's rockabilly burger bar the B.East. But don't call it a bar.
They've gone with a "derelicte" bohemian village angle for the heritage-listed Globe Alley space, which overlooks the gates of Chinatown from above the Swanston Street ANZ.
The focus is on wine, cocktails, rotisserie chicken and art. Inside you'll find crumbling paint juxtaposed with hanging plants, a huge mural by Mike Giant of Rebel8 and two bars. In the smaller circular cocktail bar you might see bartender Sean Hastings throwing liquor in wide arcs across the counter while anchoring himself with an old-school flare pole. Dramatic.
Entertainment curator Stephanie Kabanyana Kanyandekwe is setting up a program of artists, speakers and acts like DJ duo Strictly Vinyl and Coco Noire, who will all perform on the elevated circular stage.
On the food front, B.East chef Jarrod Moore is serving a crazily eclectic menu taking in sang choy bao, slow-roasted lamb shoulder and kim chi quesadillas from 11am-1am. The main focus will be quarter, half and whole rotisserie chickens in miso butter with your choice of sauce and a side. It's open daily 11am-1am.
