Just as The Resident brought a zesty snap of cafe culture to Ashburton, Clare Hu's latest venture, Bluff Town, brings exciting cafe fare to seaside Sandringham.

This slim, L-shaped room, with floor-to-ceiling windows and blond wood furnishings, including a handsome communal table with copies of Monocle magazine, has Five Senses on the grinders and a neat list of local wines, should you fancy a long lazy lunch.

Feast on chef Janita Connelly's utterly inspired dishes that celebrate seasons and provenance. Yes, you can get eggs any way, but you can also get gorgonzola beignets with figs, cauliflower hummus with kale chips, and salmon rillettes with celeriac waffles.

It's restaurant style and quality at cafe-friendly prices. She's even devised a completely separate vegetarian and gluten-free menu. This is the kind of food that has you punching the air for Melbourne's dining scene.
