Spumante, Genesis, a devil on horseback. If this sounds like a good night out (or if you even remember what those things are), the new Bondy's bar on Phillip Lane could be most fun you've had since the 1983 America's Cup win.

There's even a $20,000 cocktail.

Bondy's (named after that cheeky scamp Alan Bond) is a tribute to the unashamed excess of the 1980s. A time when Christopher Skase was chartering private jets to collect Pixie's frocks and Viennetta ice-cream was the talk of the Copperart table.

"I think the '80s resonates with everyone," says Bondy's co-owner and Sneaky Sound System founding member Daimon Downey. "It was a time of excess and super fun when everyone was in fluoro and making lots of dough."

Iconic '80s artist Ken Done was so thrilled with the idea he even donated five of his artworks to Bondy's.

"He was like 'Ah! An 80's bar! This is incredible'," Downey says.

Downey says everything at Bondy's - from the artworks and carpet to the music and glassware - is 100 per cent pure '80s.

"We found a lot of stuff at the back of warehouses that no one had touched for a very long time," he says. "Once you tell people you're opening an '80s bar, everyone lights up and are like 'Oh my god, I've got this you can use'."

Velvet booths are many, as are angular martini glasses, and bottles of Penfold's Grange. It claims to be the only place in Australia serving Foster's on tap, and probably the only place in Australia selling prawn cocktails with Thousand Island dressing, cocktail frankfurts with French mustard, and devils on horseback (for anyone born after the bicentenary that's an almond-stuffed date wrapped in bacon).

And that $20,000 cocktail? It comes garnished with a pearl necklace.

We're sure Pixie would approve.
