Almost a year to day since Neil Perry launched his first Burger Project in the Sydney CBD, the Rockpool chef declared his second burger joint officially open on Monday.

Burger Project No. 2 is located at the redeveloped MLC Centre in Martin Place. The fast-casual offerings are almost identical to the World Square store with 10 different burgers using grass-fed beef, free-range chicken or crumbed confit mushroom plus chips, shakes, house-made sodas, ice-cream desserts, wine and beer.

The new 80-seat restaurant is also similar in the looks department to the original store with an open kitchen, blonde wood, white tables and uncluttered walls. Customers can place takeaway orders from the Burger Project website after 3pm, which isn't the worst idea if you're putting the hard yards in at the office and keen for a quick dinner.

"It really is fast food with slow-food values," Perry says. "We use 36-month grass-fed Cape Grim beef with no additives or hormones and it's cut, minced and rolled into patties by hand daily."

Rockpool Group plans to open another five Burger Projects in the next 18 months. The Gateway redevelopment Circular Quay is the next Sydney site targeted, with a store scheduled to open in October 2016. Parramatta and Broadway are also on the list.

Melbourne will get its first taste of Burger Project in March 2016 at the St Collins Lane development in the CBD followed by a Chadstone location in September.
