Have you ever been stuck in the city after curfew and all you want is a rooftop bar to smash salami and Penfolds Grange? Or maybe oysters and a $1900 bottle of Salon Cuvee S champagne?

No? Fair enough. Just know that if you ever happened to come into a lot of expendable cash late one evening, Club Intercontinental Supper Club can facilitate such things.

The bar is located on the top floor of the Macquarie Street Intercon. It has a stunning 270-degree view of Sydney Harbour, a balcony from which to soak it all in and, because it's attached to a hotel, is exempt from pesky lock-out laws.

You currently need to be a Club Intercontinental guest to access the rooftop lounge, but that changes when Martin O'Sullivan (Grasshopper, Magazin) and his team launch Supper Club in the last week of June.

"It's such an amazing view, we didn't want it hidden from anyone," O'Sullivan says.

The drinks menu focuses on top-end champagne (we're talking Duval-Leroy, Taittinger, Perrier-Jouet and G.H. Mumm) and the non-sparkling section of the wine list is all Australian. There's the aforementioned high-rolling Grange (a 1994 will set you back $1575), however, bottles from the likes of Jamsheed, Cullen and Domaine Naturaliste are yours at a more accessible price point. Sake, beers and cocktails are available too.

Intercontinental's director of food and beverage services, Tamas Pamer, has created a light supper menu that lists buttermilk fried chicken schnitzel with caper berries and sriracha ($29), grilled semi-dried chorizo with mustard and bread ($25), pork jowl with parmesan and piccalilli ($19) and an Australian cheese plate ($32) of Holy Goat La Luna, Barossa Valley Wanera, Berrys Creek Riverine Blue and Maffra cloth-aged cheddar.

In a win for hospitality workers and midnight snackers, all food will be served until 2am Friday and Saturday.

While it's going to be great to curl up here with a glass of red and maple-smoked olives over winter, Intercontinental Supper Club promises to be a treat on warm summer nights with the balcony doors open on each side and a late-night breeze drifting through. Another glass of Ruinart, please.

117 Macquarie Street Sydney, Wed-Sat 9pm-late.
