Castle Hill small bar and restaurant Crooked Tailor has opened its doors, offering soul-warming classic food, a rotating cocktail list, and an all-round relaxed atmosphere.

The Hill's new quirky addition is run by Pocket Group, which also runs Pocket Bar in Darlinghurst and Terrigal, Stitch Bar in the CBD, Button Bar in Surry Hills, and Lockwood in France.

Co-owners Karl Schlothauer and Christophe Lehoux thought Caste Hill's dense population but lack of intimate bars was the perfect combination to open their sixth venue.

"With all the rail networks coming out to Castle Hill and the astronomical housing pricing it's pushing people out of the city … 35 per cent of Sydney's population live out here, and there's not much out here apart from a couple of pubs," Schlothauer said.

The front is covered in floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which frame an atrium-style interior complete with old cast-iron furniture, an abundance of plants and repurposed heritage windows.

An archway wall leads you into the main area, which has a handful of intimate booths and larger seating areas near the hand-crafted wooden bar with 15,000 US coins on the top.

The food has been inspired from different parts of the world, from American burgers, Mexican tacos, hotdogs and sweet desserts, including a Nutella crepe served with strawberries and cream.

Seasonal cocktails include a soda one with Grey Goose la poire, lemon, maple cinnamon and ginger beer ($14), or the crowd favourite so far: the cold buttered rum with burnt butter Bacardi 8, Ardbeg, apple juice and maple.

250 Old Northern Road, Castle Hill, open Tues-Thurs 4pm-midnight, Fri-Sat 11am-midnight, Sun 11am-10pm.
