Dumpling lovers of the Shire rejoice: Din Tai Fung has opened at Miranda.

The Taiwanese chain has opened a new eatery in the revamped Miranda Westfield shopping centre.

It's the first move to the southern suburbs for Din Tai Fung, which already has restaurants in Chatswood and North Sydney as well as across inner Sydney.

The two-storey venue will seat 220, making it the biggest Din Tai Fung in Australia.

"We've always had Shire customers asking us to bring our dumplings closer so when we were invited to be part of the Miranda revamp we said yes," Din Tai Fung Australasian director Dendy Harjanto said.

The Miranda restaurant will serve the full 75-item Din Tai Fung menu, including their xiao long bao soup dumplings as well as their funky dumpling gems, which come in a rainbow of colours with flavours ranging from salad greens to bolognese.

Din Tai Fung began as a cooking oil business in Taiwan in the 1950s. When tinned cooking oil was invented, its founder Yang Bingyi opened up a restaurant on the side selling xiao long bao. The food ended up being so popular that they dropped the cooking oil and focused on dumplings.

Din Tai Fung restaurants can now be found in Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, USA, Hong Kong and Australia.
