One might contend that Melbourne has enough doughnut shops, but then, one would be wrong. Especially since this is the first Melbourne doughnut shop to be strategically named Donut Shop.

The pair behind Smith Street's Shop Ramen, Pat Breen and Lydia Wegner, opened their Donut Shop on Saturday.

The fatty, fluffy brioche-style treats at Donut Shop Donuts & Coffee are made fresh daily on site.

Doughnut flavours include pina colada brulee, matcha and white chocolate, Thai milk tea and roasted coconut, blueberry and lime, cinnamon sugar, and mocha hazelnut crunch ($4-$5). Vegan sweet tooths will be pleased with a weekly vegan special.

Wash down your sweets with kombucha, ginger beer, or espresso and filter Small Batch coffee.

With pared back white interiors by Olaver Architecture, the kitchen from the previous tenant (a fish and chip shop) is the only aspect left largely unchanged. A single neon doughnut and mug glows over Donut Shop's marble tabletops.

Open Wed-Fri 8am-4pm; Sat-Sun 9am-5pm.
