Cremorne's Form Coffee is the new, smaller sibling to Glen Iris cafe Platform Espresso. Patty Karakostas and Pete Elston opened their High Street cafe three years ago and a friend recently offered a tiny garage space in Cremorne.

"It fell into place very easily and the Cremorne community has been very supportive," says Elston. The couple used the businesses in the area to dress the tiny cafe, which has just two stools – the focus is on takeaway. "The signage was done by a local guy and Mance Design, just up the road, did the lighting," he says.

Form Coffee uses beans from Canterbury-based roastery the Maling Room, which created a seasonal espresso house blend as well as supplying single-origin beans for filter coffee.

Considering the size of the place, there's ample food on offer. Sandwiches are made on-site, perhaps filled with pastrami or panko-crumbed chicken, rocket salad and mayonnaise, on bread from Port Melbourne bakery Noisette, which also supplies pastries.
