Emily Bitto and Nathen Doyle (ex A Minor Place and Wide Open Road respectively) are bringing Italian hospitality without the hustle to Lygon Street from Wednesday.

Heartattack and Vine will open daily from 7am until 11pm, at lunchtime swapping Noisette pastries for McIvor Farms porchetta and other ciabattas, and in the evenings dishing up Italy's answer to tapas, cicchetti, such as stuffed, deep-fried olives and rustic polpette (meatballs) from the hefty blackbutt bar.

The wine has travelled mostly from Italy and Spain, but vermouth will become the drink of summer.

Nicky Adams is responsible for the trattoria-meets-northside interior featuring repurposed light shades, suspended window panes and a wavy wooden ceiling.

Licensed to seat 50 inside and out, Heartattack and Vine pinched its name from a Tom Waits song. According to Nathen, it's their way of telling customers that they're not pretending to be Italian. "We just want to replicate that really relaxed, simple, welcoming hospitality… although I can put on a very good accent."
