Barista Lee Eman had long dreamed of running his own place, while his partner, Chloe Dam, wanted somewhere to go in their Parkdale neighbourhood like the cafes they frequented closer to town.

The result is Hendriks Cafe, a bright, airy space in a converted factory out the back of Mordialloc, right near Woodlands Golf Club. Eman did the fitout with help from Dam's dad, Harry.

Chefs Adam Owens (ex Miss Jackson) and Tom Croswell (ex MONA) have put together an all-day menu featuring nicely executed brunch dishes (whisky-infused hotcakes, french toast with mascarpone and orange blossom honey) as well as three po' boys – buttermilk chicken, pulled pork and southern shrimp – served in takeaway boxes. Coffee is from 5 Senses, plus regular guest roasters.
