Handsome Steve is back. Steve Miller, the man behind the name and behind the bar, has opened his new House of Refreshment behind Neuw Denim clothing, in Fitzroy. Miller previously plied his trade at the Abbotsford Convent and while it's taken him a while to reopen, he's done so without compromising his simple hospitality. On the menu: ham and cheese sandwiches, coffee "with ethics" and a single beer tap pouring Carlton Draught. Retro furniture, a ping pong table and walls hung with album covers help customers feel like "they're at their favourite uncle's place".

Rear, 397 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy (no phone). Open: Thurs-Sun 9am-10pm-ish.
