One of Sydney's favourite pizzerias is expanding its blistered crusts and Naples-style margheritas a little further south-east.
Lucio's Pizzeria has opened a store in Zetland's East Village complex. The new restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner and also has a mozzarella and wine bar. Head chef Lucio De Falco says he is excited to be introducing diners to delights from the southern Italy and the Campania region.
"I like to only use fresh, simple ingredients," he says. "It is important not to over-complicate things in the kitchen, especially when working with authentic recipes."
Pizzas include the Diavola ($18) with tomato, mozzarella and hot salami, the Filetto ($21) topped with cherry tomato, rocket, prosciutto and shaved parmesan and the much-loved Lucio ($20) - half margherita and half calzone with ricotta, mozzarella and ham.
The mozzarella bar showcases a variety of cheeses imported from Italy. A tasting plate of two, such as a delicate bufala classica and smoked affumicata, is $14.50 and there's plenty of cured meats like bresaola, mortadella and nduja calabrese choose as a cheese accompaniment.
Lucio Pizzeria Zetland has gluten-free options available.
De Falco opened the first Lucio Pizzeria in Darlinghurst eight years ago.
