The couple behind local small-batch drinking chocolate producer Mörk Chocolate last week launched a new concept store in North Melbourne – a brew house dedicated to liquid chocolate.

Self-described "cacao artisans" Kiril Shaginov and expat-Swedish chocolatier Josefin Zernell founded Mörk in 2012 after working together at a coffee roastery in Sweden in 2009. They've since established the brand as the drinking chocolate du jour for top local cafes like St Ali, Proud Mary and Seven Seeds, thanks to their combined hands-on skills and commitment to using the highest quality ingredients.

Set in a converted 1950s bakery warehouse in Errol Street, the 16-seat "sensory experience" aims to change the way you think about chocolate beverages. Along with Mörk's range of drinking chocolate blends, you'll find new delights such as their pure Breakfast Chocolate (house-made oat milk, dark chocolate and cinnamon) and the nostalgically fun Campfire Chocolate – a smoked dark chocolate with smoked salt and little marshmallows on sticks.

Says Zernell, "Everyone grows up with sweet hot chocolate, and we want to push the boundaries. If we could get as excited about drinking chocolate now as when we were kids, wouldn't that be a wonderful thing?" Wonderful indeed.

Open Tues–Sat 8am–5pm; Sun 9am-5pm.
