It's pure coincidence that the gym attached to Serotonin backs on to Utopia Place. It's no coincidence that the menu is based around food said to release serotonin, a neurotransmitter linked to wellbeing.

Owner Emily Arundel rallied the tradesmen in the family and savings from her babysitting referral company to create the concept eatery. Having studied interior architecture and communication design, there's a strong focus on branding. The hexagons that form the serotonin chemical symbol feature throughout the corner cafe, from white tiling to golden pots housing succulents.

About 100 happy-chappies can choose sit on the deck or indoors on swings and raised tatami-style sofas.

The plant-based menu spins quinoa and oat porridge as "Dreamy" while "Positive Pancakes" made from banana flour with almond-covered yoghurt balls are Instagrammable.Salads and lunches are available to take away (borrow a picnic basket and blanket and head to the park across the road).

Golden milk (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper) advocates a stimulant-free lifestyle, and matcha lattes and 5 Senses coffee cater to caffeinated Melburnians.

Serotonin is taking expressions of interest for a holistic happiness course starting next year, and hosts regular events. If you're happy and you know it, see you at Serotonin.
