The Butcher's Daughter is a vegetarian cafe and juice bar in New York that you may have visited. It's also now a cafe in Elwood, plating up those Melbourne breakfast must-haves (avocado, green juices) like its Big Apple progenitor, while also taking a more literal tack.

"We thought the name would be a bit of a quirky twist given we're quite meat-orientated," says co-owner Ryan Cassidy, who also owns Truman in Albert Park.

He began working with Jackie Bega (Galleon, Radio Mexico, Las Chicas) 14 years ago, and the two have paired up again to deliver this Elwood local.

Their sweets game is strong, with pastry chef Rebecca Walter (ex Cobb Lane) in the kitchen sending out loaded doughnuts, cakes, tarts and muffins, while coffee is by Wide Open Road and includes a bottomless filter option.

The Italian-influenced all-day breakfast menu sees bruschetta and panzanella sitting alongside simple six-minute eggs and sides. Dinner will start in the coming weeks – think salumi boards, pasta and other European faithfuls.
