Cheese lovers of western Sydney, your brie prayers have been answered. The Factoria has opened and it's formaggio central.

Wetherill Park's sprawling industrial estate isn't the most likely spot for a cafe and specialty cheese room, but that hasn't stopped Antonio Tarzia from opening The Factoria next to his existing restaurant, Grano.

"The feedback from locals has been amazing," says general manager Carmelina Catanzariti. "Better than what we could have ever expected."

The Factoria stocks parmesans, pecorinos, blues and harder-to-find favourites like Brillat-Savarin triple cream, Saint-Marcellin brie, Chabichou goat's cheese, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, and Affidelice au Chablis.

Shoppers can also pick up salami from Montecatini Specialty Smallgoods and a range of paleo, organic and gluten-free products.

Catanzariti says customers have been comparing the store to the Grounds of Alexandria. "People call it 'The Grounds of the West'," she says. "I think it's an opportunity for people in the local area to come and experience products they usually would have to travel quite far to get."

Salads and panini are available at lunch if you're in the area and have a hankering for something healthier than an industrial-estate meat pie.

If it's just a coffee, cake and chinwag kind of a morning then a latte made with Will & Co beans will set you back $3.60 and there are Nutella cronuts if you're there early enough score one (although there's still plenty of gelato and ricotta cannoli if you miss out).
