Libertine owner Andrew Baturo is adding a takeaway window with a focus on banh mi to his modern Vietnamese restaurant.

The Wham Bam Banh Mi! window will open at the Barracks restaurant on Wednesday, and will serve takeaway Vietnamese street food.

"We're really proud of what we have built at Libertine and we feel the time is right to offer our customers something new and exciting that the local market is not currently delivering. We're conscious that people are busy on their lunch breaks – so Wham Bam Banh Mi! means that you can now get fast, chef-quality food at street hawker prices," Baturo says.

The menu, developed by head chef Linton Smith (ex Bistro Arlette in New Farm) who recently joined the Libertine team, features seven banh mi such as pork with apple-chilli sauce; "Three little pigs" with roast pork, red-braised pork and pork terrine; and bang bang chicken, plus four Asian salads, all priced between $8-$12.

Wham Bam Banh Mi! will operate from the Lantern Terrace at Libertine, from 11am-2.30pm on weekdays.

It'll be a busy few weeks for Baturo, who also launches Heya Bar, said to be "inspired by the alleyways and bars of the Golden Gai in Shinjuku" in Fortitude Valley on March 27, with Paul Piticco and Denis Sheahan, his business partners from The Gresham and Popolo Italian Kitchen and Bar at South Bank.
