A fine dining chef in charge of the kitchen at Gazebo Wine Garden seemed too good to last, and it hasn't.

Matthew Kemp confirmed he's out of Gazebo. Kemp, a member of the Banc pack of chefs who populated Sydney with their own restaurants, joined Keystone Group (owner of Gazebo Wine Garden) last year after the closure of his Randwick eatery, Montpellier.

''There's still a possibility I'll remain involved [with Keystone] in a consultancy role. I've had a lot of fun there,'' the chef says.

Kemp, who made a name for himself at his first venture, Restaurant Balzac, won't be drawn on the specifics of any future move, but did say he doesn't think he'll ''ever be doing fine dining again''.

Never say never.
