Rockpool Bar & Grill sous chef Kim Douglas has joined the team at Henrietta Supper Club, which opens on Friday June 20 at 292 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, the one-time site of Will and Toby's and, most recently, Tastevin.

It is a busy and promising time for the Darlo strip.

Douglas' opening menu, which tags itself modern British and Irish, is just the ticket for winter, with Jerusalem artichoke soup served with apple walnut salsa, alongside larger dishes such as beef shin with Yorkshire pudding.

Co-owner Simon McGoram says the design inspiration comes from the 1940s.

"We have a load of original and handmade pieces from Frank Howell, including a deer antler and clam-shell chandeliers."

McGoram is keen to add a sophisticate late-night eating and drinking venue to the area.

"It's named after Elizabeth Henrietta Macquarie as a little tip of the hat to Darlinghurst's history. The area was named Henrietta Town after Major-General Lachlan Macquarie's wife in the early 19th century," he says.

They've also snared Pete Learmonth to manage the restaurant, a staple on the floor at Porteno for the past three years.
