If you've ever lamented the lack of good yum cha in northwest Sydney, lament no more.

Lan Yuan has opened at Top Ryde shopping centre and in addition to dumplings, the Cantonese restaurant has peking duck, mud crab, pipis and rock lobster on the menu.

"Ryde is very multicultural," says owner Shawn Ren. "We saw an opportunity to open as there was a lack of traditional, authentic Cantonese food in the area."

Dishes include char siu pork ($20), Singapore-style tiger prawns ($29), Cantonese-style whole barbecue duck ($42), cumin lamb cutlets ($32) and marinated jellyfish with black sesame oil ($8).

Lan Yuan means "bamboo garden" and Chinese bamboo features heavily throughout the interior.

The yum cha dishes are made to order at present, however the restaurant is hoping to introduce a trolley service in the future.
