The longest recorded search for a Sydney restaurant site is over.

Chef Lennox Hastie, who went on the Fink family payroll in 2011, is believed to have settled on a site on the lower slopes of Surry Hills.

Located in the former home of a catering business in the precinct around Mary Street, it will open in October, say those in the know.

Hastie couldn't be reached for comment and, after so many near misses, he is understandably hesitant to speak before he serves his first meal.

Hastie is a product of the Asador Etxebarri kitchen in Spain and his venture's launch is worth keeping an eye on.
