The site of the former Gigibaba will reopen as Northern Light by the end of next week. Chef Adam Liston, who most recently ran the pop-up catering concept Borrowed Space with chef Joel Alderson, has gone into business with Glen Bagnara (ex-Chester White) and has employed Emily Pullen, former co-owner of Northcote's Next Door Diner, to run front-of-house.

Describing the changes made to the dining room as more of a "paint job", Liston has kept the exposed lightbulbs that hang over the bar from Gigibaba days; in fact, it's where the name came from. "We're in the north and we love those lights," Liston says. The menu has 20 to 25 same-size dishes with "some Japanese and Chinese influences", designed for sharing.

Northern Light is at 102 Smith Street, Collingwood.
