Fast food and vegetarianism have traditionally been something of an odd couple, but that was before Melbourne-based franchise Lord of the Fries hit the scene in 2004. Now there are six of the vegetarian-friendly burger joints in the Victorian capital and two in the Sydney CBD.

Parramatta is the next NSW city to join the plant-based party as the Lord sets up shop in the Western Sydney capital at the end of April.

"Parramatta is a busy, bustling place and we work best in those kinds of environments," says the franchise's managing director, Sam Koronczyk.

Westfield food court will house the store and punters can expect the menu to be stuffed with burgers, hot dogs, and, of course, chips. All of the plant-based patties and dogs are vegetarian, halal and kosher, with vegan and gluten-free options also available.

"People are very happy that we're vegetarian," says Koronczyk. "Even the broader community is pleased when they find out. People are becoming more open to reducing their meat intake."

On a national scale, the expanding chip empire will take itself almost as far west as you can go by opening a store in Perth at the beginning of March.
