Louie set to soar

Bob Hart and Hilary McNevin

The Millswyn in Domain Road, South Yarra, has failed to make its mark since Davis Yu and his Maison Davis group opened the place in 2010 in the grand old Lynch's venue in which, in its day, many a fine Toorak or South Yarra lady lost her composure. Now, the doors are shut. But the space will reopen in the new year, we are promised, with a fresh identity and a new name: Louie - as in the fly created by Bryce Courtenay for a Mortein ad. Yu acknowledges that the The Millswyn has fizzled out. "It was fine for dinner," he says, "but people didn't feel comfortable dropping by after running the Tan." Louie, apparently, will be a "casual, all-day eatery and coffee house", he says. Chef Sean Judd will oversee the menu. Renovations are under way and the plan is for Louie to open mid-January.
