Newtown's Gold Diggers Arms Hotel has been slaking thirsts in Geelong since 1854. Cattle hides and prints on the walls signal the direction under new owner Richard Kelly, who has installed a South American-influenced menu. Empanadas and chorizo with caramelised pineapple sit alongside tortillas and Cape Grim pasture-fed beef with chimichurri, and dulce de leche, hazelnut custard and pear trifle to finish. A drinks list featuring Argentine wines, beers and pisco sours reinforces the theme. The public bar sticks with pub classics such as Siketa's sausages and mash and fish and chips. Bars are open for lunch and dinner daily, restaurant lunch Wed-Sun and dinner daily.
