Melbourne's Section 8 bar is joining the march north and will open in Sydney.

With a rash of Melbourne venues pushing into the harbour city (Lord of the Fries the latest), the Section 8 crew has been scouting sites.

''Definitely CBD; we're in advanced negotiations on two sites,'' Section 8 owner Maz Salt tells Short Black.

With shipping containers popping up as design features everywhere, Salt maintains he was first to spot the trend, when Section 8 opened six years ago.

''Section 8 was Australia's first venue that exclusively used recycled and industrial materials and featured shipping containers to create a local hangout,'' he says.
