Michael Chatto moves to Chifley's Bar & Grill

Canberra is jumping in on the pre-Christmas restaurant opening action with former Pier, Italian & Sons and Artespresso chef Michael Chatto fronting the kitchen at Chifley's Bar & Grill at the Hotel Kurrajong. The new steakhouse, which opens December 16, is named after former Prime Minister Ben Chifley. According to the hotel's records, Chifley lived and dined regularly at the Kurrajong. Press records show he also fell ill in his room in 1951, and was later pronounced dead at Canberra Community Hospital.
