Popular Japanese restaurant Mizu in Teneriffe is to open a second restaurant.
"We decided we wanted to extend the experience," says co-owner Soichiro Chaki. "People just don't travel for casual restaurants like Mizu: most of our customers are locals. I used to do some cooking classes in West End, and most people who came, even though they liked Japanese food, had never been to Mizu because it was on the other side of town. So we decided to open another restaurant in West End."
Currently being renovated, Mizu will seat about 50 in a Hardgrave Road venue that was formerly the Italian diner The Red Hen. Initially, Chaki says they will open only for dinner, but as trade develops, they will consider doing lunches as well as the famous "Japanese breakfasts" on offer in Teneriffe.
A sake bar is also being slated to go downstairs by the end of the year.
