A Perth restaurant has rejected ex-TV cooks Chloe James and Kelly Ramsay's scathing review, calling it outdated, untrue and also accusing the pair of spending weeks avoiding paying the bill.

The former My Kitchen Rules contestants, who divided public opinion during their stint on the show, now write reviews for The Sunday Times' weekend lifestyle magazine STM.

Their Sunday review "Hipster deli should stick to brekkie" awarded West Perth's West End Deli nine points out of 20 ("consider takeaway pizza instead").

The review, written from Ms Ramsay's point of view and detailing Ms James' reactions, said the restaurant's staff lacked knowledge.

Mentions of poorly executed flavours, soggy cheese, overripe watermelon, underripe tomatoes, burnt curry and stingy scallops overshadowed a sprinkling of compliments.

Ms Ramsay said they left large quantities of food on their plates because of these problems.

"On the walk back to my place, Chloe sighed: 'Shall we head to the Leedi for dinner, take two?'" she wrote.

In a Facebook post, which had gathered over 16,000 likes, close to 2000 comments and was shared over 4000 times on Monday, West End Deli was quick to fight back.

"We are not averse to some good old-fashioned constructive criticism, but there were several inconsistencies," management posted on its Facebook page.

The post said only Ms Ramsay attended, with her fiancé, and the closing remark from 'Chloe' about heading elsewhere for dinner was not only a "cheap shot" but a "fabrication".

"We would love to know how Chloe can fairly put her name to a review of a restaurant and food that she has not actually experienced," the post said.

The post also said the dinner actually occurred in October 2015 and, since the menu was a seasonal one, the review did not reflect the present menu.

They also added the plates were cleared "spotless".

The restaurant went on to allege it had to chase a $260 bill for seven weeks and that it was finally settled "begrudgingly".

"We also made our concerns clear to the STM editor after we were made aware that we were being reviewed months after the dinner took place," it posted.

"STM has a readership of 321,000 people, meaning that these two ex-reality telly home cooks have the power to damage the reputation of a family business with a few inaccurate, scathing taps on the keyboard. So all we can ask of you Perth, is that you make up your own mind on our offering."

Many Facebook followers voiced support for the restaurant after the post, while Ms Ramsay and Ms James' spokeswoman Deborah Muson said they were "used to negativity".

"The majority of the time it seems to follow them," she said.

"They're tough, they can brush it off."

She said she believed the restaurant would have been "nervous" about the review but would not say why, nor would she confirm or deny any of the conflicting stories about the date or circumstances of the review.
