More projects for Mathis

Paul Mathis made headlines last year when he opened six restaurants and cafes in a 12-month period. Now he's added another two food outlets in Frankston. Mathis owns Bangpop and Akachochin on South Wharf; Firechief, Goldilocks and CoffeeHead in Hawthorn; and Henry and the Fox in the city. He has added a second CoffeeHead and an Italian cafe called Bar Napoli. Both are on the ground floor of the redeveloped Peninsula Centre at 435-437 Nepean Highway. Nathan Scarfo (recently at Sarti) runs the kitchen at Bar Napoli. Mathis says Bar Napoli is about ''bespoke Neapolitan food'', and he's excited about his commitment in the south-east. ''We're serving city food in Frankston, in a stylish environment,'' he says. ''This area is certainly emerging as a funky place to be.'' Mathis is also involved in a planned pizzeria for Southern Cross Station.
