New restaurant Akiba coming to Civic

If you're in Civic you might notice some big signs going up on the ActewAGL building on Bunda Street. The big, glass-walled section of the building used to be home to the now-defunct Dieci e Mezzo but is under wraps for construction. It's going to be an interesting new restaurant venture called Akiba from the Harrington brothers, who run Sage in Braddon. The name, Akiba, we're told, comes from the name of a Japanese fire deity and the new restaurant will be serving up a range of modern Asian fusion dishes with an unusual concept which will be revealed soon. Peter and Michael Harrington say they've also been recruiting chefs who've worked at some big name restaurants, including Tetsuya's, State Bird Provisions in San Francisco, and Ryugin in Tokyo. We can expect an outdoor area and a long kitchen bar for casual dining. The Harringtons told us work on the site is beginning and Akiba is set to open later in the year. Stay tuned for more details.
